Hello everyone— Amanda with EMS university here. Today, I’m talking about the different stages and challenges that students studying to become an EMT face. If you’re interested in the field or care to explore the path towards EMT certification, I highly suggest you read on! 

1. “I’m going to be an EMT, woohoooo!”

So being EMT certified is now your main priority— I bet your pumped for the journey ahead! Slow your mosey— this is a serious life decision that will require 110% percent effort. You’ll be structuring your time on learning and truly absorbing all the knowledge necessary to be entrusted to save lives out there. It’s no easy feat. So, start by patting yourself on the back for choosing such an awesome career path…now let’s bust those books open. 

2. “Oh boy, what did I get myself into?”

After a few classes (or hours in class), reality will kick in. You’ll be learning words you never were pronounceable and your highlighters will start to dry up from being used so much.  When the workload starts piling up the key is to stay focused by removing excess distractions. Intentionally make the choice to avoid scrolling on social media for a day to focus on studying for the next big exam. Remember, you are in control of how you use your time and energy!

3. “I can do this.”

Secure your study groups, the uphill climb continues. Preparing for the big test with likeminded, determined students is the way to go during this stretch. Think of your mind as a muscle and your fellow students as buff, oiled-up training partners in the ring with you. Training with others can boost your overall productivity and help you develop quick problem-solving strategies. And hey, a little peer motivation, laughter, and emotional support won’t hurt either.

4. “I did it.”

Finally, you’ll be at the finish line— passing grade in hand. Soak in the feeling of accomplishment, you did it, you star student! Now, the celebration begins but the toughest part is yet to come. Before you know it, it’ll be time to start working on the field. But the confidence of coming this far ensures the feeling of three beautiful words— YOU. GOT. THIS!
